Birthday Celebration – Ray Ordway

Join us all weekend as we celebrate California vaquero Ray Ordway's 90th birthday!

California native & a well known traditional vaquero horseman/riata man, Ray has dedicated his life toward exhibiting & sharing the California vaquero traditions with many generations. Starting horses and working cattle began early following the path of his father Ira who was a vaquero on the historic Rancho Jesus Maria at age 14, later running cattle on an 88,000 acre ranch under the Lazy Hook Diamond brand which Ray inherited. Ray at age 13 was starting colts, using a riata & was a partner in a cattle business with his brother Jack. Ray has worked many of the largest, most well known cattle ranches in California always adhering to the old vaquero style of horse handling, developing fine bridle horses. He personally has always preferred the working Morgan breed. His knowledge & ability as a vaquero is legendary. Ray and his wife LaVerne reside in Madera, California.  Happy Birthday Ray!
